LWG Veitshöchheim Visits PanAmerican Seed
PanAmerican Seed recently received a special visit from a group of university students of Bayerische Landesanstalt für Weinbau und Gartenbau (LWG Veitshöchheim). It is also known as the Bavarian State Research Center for Viticulture and Horticulture.

We work a lot together with LWG Veitshöchheim on trialing of new varieties. This includes other trials they are undertaking involving interesting topics such as pollination, peat free trialing, etc.
As we welcomed eight students and their teacher at our site in Venhuizen, we invited them to walk through an in-depth tour of the facility. They were able to tour the PanAmerican Seed facility with all aspects of breeding, research and production all in one place, seeing all facets of breeding and flower seed production.

The day started at the office with a coffee and a welcome. After, they visited the Ball Helix lab and were guided by Monique Zaal. Afterwards, they visited the Seed Tuning area where seed is selected and if needed, treated. Koen Huigen was there to help explain about this process.
After a tour of the new Phytopathology lab and some explanation and visuals under the microscope by Dharani Kamalachandran, the students were guided through the greenhouses by breeder Han Sasbrink. Back in the office, Jeroen Star, Sales Manager Europe, and Eva Wijnker – van der Cruijsen explained about Sales & Marketing of the Ball Horticultural Group and PanAmerican Seed.

There was also a reoccurring theme throughout the tour, which featured Beacon® Impatiens. Highly resistant to disease, our impatiens are bred on location at Venhuizen. Speaking of breeding, we see great opportunities in the younger generation!
Let’s continue to motivate them to be the next breeding generation. Another opportunity to see them again was at their open days this summer: Sommertagung Zierpflanzenbau “Trends auf der Spur.” Get to know them better via: Sommertagung Zierpflanzenbau “Trends auf der Spur” (bayern.de)
