Biological Control at PanAmerican Seed Production Facilities

PanAmerican Seed production stops at nothing to improve sustainability efforts. We are proud to work with nature and people to produce flower seeds in an environmentally conscious and cost-effective manner.

Our primary goal in production is to produce more with less, and IPM (Integrated Pest Management) has been one of the pillars of our production efforts. As part of the overall IPM strategy, Biocontrol plays a critical role in achieving our goals.

Biological control uses beneficial insects, such as predators and parasitoids, or pathogens, such as fungi, to control unwanted insects or diseases. Biocontrol is environmentally friendly since it does not harm the environment and causes no pollution.

Today, PanAmerican Seed is the world's leading flower seed-producing company using Biocontrol.

For over a decade, PAS has used Biocontrol as part of our IPM production management with all our production sites. Linda Vista (Costa Rica), one of our most important production sites, is the first to successfully manage Biocontrol on a large scale. In 2022, Linda Vista commemorated an incredible achievement; 1.1 billion seeds were produced using biological controls.

We are very proud of this achievement and have decided to raise the bar by expanding the challenge to all our production sites. PAS production’s global goal in the 2023-2024 season is to produce an incredible 5 billion seeds using Biocontrol.
