Pantone® Colour of the Year: Classic Blue

When the colour experts at Pantone® announced its annual colour choice, breeding teams instantly browsed their palette of plants to find matches for the garden. Classic Blue (Pantone 19-4052) is elegant in its simplicity, according to the colour intelligence team. It brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. PanAmerican Seed is pleased to have colour matches in its Viola Sorbet® XP, Delphinium Diamonds, Lobelia Riviera and many others…

Viola Sorbet XP Delft Blue is one of the favourites of the Sorbet XP series because of its attractive colours which are similar to the famous Dutch pottery featuring white and blue shades. Sorbet XP genetics offer a uniform plant habit and tight bloom window for precise, programmable, predictable growing and shipping of the highest-quality Violas. Plants cover the soil at flowering, with more blooms on every plant and less stretching.

It's a match!! Lobelia Riviera Midnight Blue exactly fits the Pantone colour Classic Blue. This variety beats other compact Lobelia varieties for its earliness, uniformity and vigour. The ball-shaped plants stay compact and mounded, making them perfect for beds, borders, containers and beautiful colour bowls. Riviera Midnight Blue features elegant navy-blue flowers with white eyes at the ends of the stems from mid-Spring to mid-Fall. Its tiny narrow leaves remain green in colour throughout the season.

Delphinium Diamonds Blue is very different from the traditional tall, spiky Delphiniums. This strain forms a low, bushy mound of lacy green leaves and strong stems. Plants bear loose sprays of single blooms all Summer long, in a gorgeous electric blue shade that perfectly fits the Classic Blue Pantone Colour of the Year. Blue is a prized colour in garden design because of its rarity, and with Diamonds Blue, you'll have that colour in droves. Delphinium Diamonds Blue is ideal for containers, rock gardens and for edging sunny borders.
