Selecta has always been “proud to be different”, and Selecta is a welcome addition to the unrooted cuttings division of Ball Horticultural Company. This brand’s varieties and excellent genetics of vegetative propagated bedding plants are vibrant and remarkable. We are so happy to be able to include Selecta in our Shoppes on Main this year, and the traffic the Selecta store received was thoroughly impressive! Spring Trials guests this week were treated to some outstanding new colors, varieties and programs. Below are a few highlights…
New Trixi Combos™
Selecta’s TrixiLiner™ mixed rooted liner program combines three different yet complementing varieties per liner – using one crop! Growers can save money on labor in the greenhouse, and retailers are able to sell full, luscious baskets to home gardeners. While this program isn’t new, some colors/varieties are. Like “Tequila Sunrise”, a mix of new MiniFamous™ Apricot with Red Eye, Vampire, and Double Lemon Calibrachoa; or the softer “Melon Sorbet”, consisting of MiniFamous Compact Watermelon and Coral Pink Calibrachoa, and Bacopa Big White Falls. There now totals 17 TrixiLiner recipes … or you can mix your own by combining different TrixiLiner recipes together!
C'est Bon! Bonfire Begonia
The vigorous, heat- and drought-tolerant Bonfire™ series of Begonia expands this year with the addition of new dark-leafed Choc varieties, which received a lot of attention at Spring Trials. The dark foliage plays off the bright novelty flowers in Red and Pink. The new additions have a more upright habit than Bonfire and Bonfire Scarlet.
Lobelia Blues
Outside in the cool crops pavilion, Selecta featured its Magadi™ series of Lobelia in four stunning shades of blue. Electric Blue and Dark Blue were new this year, but each color of this early-flowering series is brilliant! Best of all, it performs very well in Summer – even in heat.
Think Pink
The first true pink osteospermum can be found in Selecta’s Zion™ series, which features noticeably large flowers that appeal to consumers. Zion is early-flowering, upright, and its well-branched plants make it a great focal point in patio gardens.
